Bringing Back the Canteen Watch from WW2 - USN BUSHIPS model

Sphinx Watch brings back the "Canteen" style watch with a rugged, good-looking design along with modern movement technology.

Hamilton, Elgin, and other American companies released these style watches for underwater demolition purposes during World War 2. Made for the US Navy’s Bureau of Ships, prominent crown covers on the canteen watches were part of achieving water-resistance suitable for critical activities like underwater demolition work in order to clear harbors of obstructions. Some of the canteen watches had “USN BuShips” on the dial which gave us the terms “canteen” (for the look of the of the watch crown cover) and “BuShips” for the lettering used on the dial and back covers.

Either way, the retro style and design makes this a unique look for any wearer. The 24 Jewel Seiko Auto Movement gives you the modern technology and convenance inside the brushed stainless steel case. The Barton Watch band with rubber inside provides a nice look and comfort.
