As the world of mechanical watches changed in the late sixties with competition to develop the first quartz watch, the manufacturers came up with other options. Aside from the Accutron Tuning Fork movement, hybrid electronic mechanical movement came into existance.
Hamilton came out with the first battery powered watch in the late 50s. But the other makers found solution such as the hybrid electronic mechanical watches. ETA 9158 watch in 1975 is a great example of a movement with an electronically controlled balance motor, a sweep second function, a day and date display with quickset capability, a hack feature that combines mechanical and electrical components. It powers the Hamilton product below.
We have four examples of such watches at PassTym.
First, a Hamilton with a mechanical 7 Jewel ETA Movement inside a 14kt gold plated bezel case along with a silver tone dial is ready for your collection.
Timex has an example here as well. This watch has its original gold tone case/bezel along with a silver tone dial and 12 indices.
Helbros Electric Watch comes with an interesting Hybrid Movement from Germany.
Finally, Bulova Caravelle Electrotime Set-o-Matic has a hybrid mechanical Swiss movement in this great looking man's watch.
