Makes a great display piece or decor item for home or office.

Thick, sculptured, full leather covers with richly detailed, gilt, embossed pictorial decoration and lettering, heavily beveled boards; worn gilt edges all around. Original Clasps to keep the bible closed. Lots of illustrations, mostly B/W but quite a few in color as seen in the pictures.

The Marriage page is marked as are the Deaths and Births pages. Photo holders are in good overall shape (no photos with the bible).

Contains Old and New Testaments along with other works like History of the Books of the Old and New Testaments along with color and black and white illustrations. Also, the book contains various indexes, tables, lists, concordance with religious instructions.

Size = approx. 13"x 11" x 5"

Condition: Very Good condition after rework: Some leather has worn, spine has brittle areas and wear. Cover areas on corner covers missing leather repainted to keep the board underneath in good condition. This item is over 135 years old and not properly stored in the past. Spine leather is brittle from lack of oil conditioning over the years (common with such bibles). A section of the bottom of the spine needed additional leather (in pictures).

Suitable for reading but areas of browning of the old paper around the edges. However, most of pages are not brittle. On the first few signatures, there is heavy foxing. The spine leather has wear along as well as several corner spots where leather worn away as you can see in the pictures. It has original head and foot bands added. Finally, archival tape used on inside covers to finish the presentation.

Work Completed: As scene in pictures, I've attached leather strip (from repurposed leather coat) to reinforce the split between covers and spine (front and back). A new mull was attached to the signatures and reinforced to the covers which was detached when received. The first few pagers were re-inserted into the mull using Japanese paper and thread. Also, I've added new inside covers (seen in pic). All work is done using archival quality neutral ph adhesives, paper and/or cotton along with archival tape.
